Q&A with True Blood’s Alan Ball

alan ball-thumbEW.com Michael Ausiello got an exclusive Q&A with True Blood creator Alan Ball!!!

Why wasn’t there more Eric in the finale?
BALL:
There is a reason for not seeing Eric in the last part of the episode, but if I explain it, I’ll be [giving away] too much.

Why wasn’t Sookie susceptible to Maryann’s powers but Jason was? Do they have different parents?
BALL:
They have the same parents. We will find out what Sookie is [next season]. There are such things as dominant and recessive genes. Maybe Jason is fundamentally human but he has a trace of some non-human stuff. He’s kind of a ridiculously perfect [human being]. He’s athletic and has that charisma thing, so maybe he had some help in that regard. [Laughs] Ultimately, if you look at percentages, he’s mostly human. Sookie has a stronger genetic predisposition in another direction. People who have read the books know exactly what I’m talking about. People who haven’t, it will be revealed.

PS – If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend you try them out, there are 9 so far, all by Charlaine Harris!!!

‘Vampire Diaries’ Press Tour!!!

CW just finished their ‘The Vampire Diaries’ press tour, and EW’s Michael Ausiello was there to report on the whole thing!!

Series creator/writer Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson’s Creek) wanted everyone to know that this is NOT a ‘Twilight’/'True Blood’ rip-off, and the actors seems to agree.

9:24 am: Kevin Williamson insists Diaries is “not just a high school show. It’s a small town show. Once you get past the vampire premise, we get to telling the story about this town.”

9:25 am: All three actors on the panel claim to have read the books on which the show is based. I believe maybe one of them.

9:26 am: Paul Wesley (Diaries‘ answer to Robert Pattinson) went out of his way not to watch Twilight. “If there are similarities to Robert’s character in Twilight, so be it,” he says.

9:30 am: Williamson initially feared that Diaries would be perceived as a Twilight/True Blood rip-off. “The pilot is tough because there are a lot of similarities to Twilight,” he concedes. “There was no way around it. But we’re switching things around as we get [deeper] into it. We’re not a movie with a beginning, middle and end. We’re a TV series that evolves.”
