EW Exclusive: The Van Alen Legacy Video Trailer
From EW.com
“Often when fans talk about a book or TV show in the vampire genre, they feel the need to qualify their enjoyment by saying “It’s my guilty pleasure.” Not so with Melissa de la Cruz’sNew York Times best selling Blue Bloods series. Sure, as we pointed out when teen protagonist Schuyler Van Alen made EW’s list of the 20 greatest vampires in pop culture, we may have come for the star-crossed lovers: The Blue Bloods are a society of ancient vampires who cycle through lifetimes bonded to the same person (when they find one another, the memories of their previous incarnations return), which means Schuyler’s romance with handsome Jack Force, who’s tied to Mimi (the meanest — and most entertaining — girl on New York’s Upper East Side) was never going to end well. But we stayed for the slow-build family and murder mysteries. The more Schuyler learns about her unique past and the return of the Silver Bloods, vampires who prey upon their Bluer cousins, the more we want to know. Which is why just the title of Book 4, The Van Alan Legacy, on shelves Oct. 6, got us excited. Now that we’ve seen the trailer — nice and moody à la the Mad Men opening credits — we’re thinking about pre-ordering.”
Since the video trailer is exclusive, we can’t embedd at this time. So click HERE to see it!!
The Van Alen Legacy is available on Oct 6th
Book Review: “Blue Bloods”…Not as good as Twilight

Several people have suggested to me that I read the ‘Blue Bloods’ series, one of those people even said it was better then the ‘Twilight Saga’. While, since I’m always looking for new books to read, I figured I’d try them out. Well, they are good; however I found that I actually had to reference my Bible several times while reading the 3 books in the series (further explanation will come).
The ‘Blue Bloods’ series is by author Melissa De La Cruz. The stories mainly take place in Manhattan on the Upper East and West sides. The main character is Schuyler Van Alen, who attends a preppy Upper East Side school. She is the outcast of the school along with her BFF Oliver Hazard-Perry. Soon, Schuyler discovers she is what is called a “Blue Blood” or a vampire and that in fact most of the students at her school are as well, along with her crush “Jack Force” and his sister/enemy “Mimi Force”.
Here is where the Bible reference’s start to come into play. In Ms. De La Cruz’s world, the vampires are the angel’s that have fallen from grace, banished to Earth and must survive by ‘feeding’ off Human blood. In fact, in the story, Schuyler’s Mother is actually the Archangel Gabrielle (or Gabriel). The “Blue Bloods” are trying to earn their way back into Heaven.
The books continue with Schuyler adjusting to her new Vamp life, and at the same time trying to figure out who is killing the “Blue Bloods”. Turns out there are “Silver Bloods”, this people(?) are Blue Bloods that are no longer trying to get back into Heaven and have re-joined with Lucifer(yep, that one) to get rid of all the “Blue Bloods”. Confused yet, yeah that is how I felt. It was at that point when I got up and found my Bible and actually started looking up names and such, then turned to Wikipedia for more clear answers. There is also a part about Vampire twins that I’m still a little fuzzy on.
Once you get passed the confusing Biblical parts, the stories are pretty good. I would have liked to see of the romantic/love storylines. So far there are 3 books in the series “Blue Bloods”, “Masquerade” and “Revelations” (yep, just like the last book of the Bible). The 4th novel “The Van Alen Legacy” is scheduled to come out in Oct 2009.
The Last book “Revelations” contains a lot of references to Satin (Lucifer), so if you not comfortable reading books that contain that subject, I would highly recommend you NOT read these books.
As for these books being better then “The Twilight Saga”, they are not even close. For one, Twilight did not confuse me to the point where I had to start looking up facts/names on the internet to get things straight. Twilight focuses more on the love story with the danger/action on the sidelines, where as in “Blue Bloods” it’s reversed.
I’ll most likely read the 4th just to see if it answers any of the questions that I was left with.
