There are times when I kick myself my reading a certain book, this is one of those times.  I just finished reading “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult, and although it is a very good book, it just hit too close to home for me in certain areas.

The story is about the Anna Fitzgerald and her wish to be medically emancipated from her parents.  The basis of this is that Anna was created to save her older sister Kate who has Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL); Anna no longer wants to be a donner for Kate.

The story is told from many point of views, so you see what affect Anna’s decision has on everyone.  I’m not going to go into great detail on the story as I feel it won’t have the same effect of you reading it for yourself, but I will say this, even though I knew how the story ended (I Googled it), it still threw me for a loop.

Now I have to say this story made me cry several times, but that might be due to that fact that as I mentioned, certain parts of this story just hit a little too close to home.  I didn’t have a sister with APL and I’m no ones perfect genetic match.  I did however have a cousin whom I was very close with die from Ewing Sarcoma Bone Cancer, so a lot of the hospital scenes that are in the book, it wasn’t too hard to picture them.

Even though it was hard for me to get through this book, it was extremely good.  I do caution that if you have ever lost a sibling (which I also have), a child, friend, etc it maybe extremely hard to read this book.

“My Sister’s Keeper” has been made into a Motion Picture staring Abigail Breslin,Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric; The movie is scheduled to be release on June 26, 209
